Why mesh netting exists, and why it is the problem
Almost every pair of swim trunks sold has a mesh brief sewn inside. It is there because it is cheap, it dries fast and it stops the outer fabric clinging when wet. It is also abrasive polyester netting sitting directly on skin that is wet, salty and sandy, which is why swim trunk rash is a search term at all. Most men solve it one of three ways: wear underwear under the trunks (which then stays wet for hours), cut the netting out (which removes all support), or buy trunks that do not use it.
What a compression liner does differently
Tucann trunks use what the brand calls the Aqua-Liner: an inner short cut from smooth, four way stretch swim fabric, the same family of material used in compression shorts and swim briefs. It holds and supports like compression wear, it is opaque, it dries with the shell, and there is no netting anywhere in the garment. It was the reason the company was started in Melbourne in 2017, after the founder could not find trunks without mesh.

The honest caveats
5 low rated reviews mention the liner. The recurring points: the liner can feel lower in the rise than a brief, a couple of customers with a preference for a very snug brief cut it out and wore their own, and one found it too flat. That is 5 out of 420 liner reviews, but they are real and they are published on the complaints page.

Do you wear underwear with swim trunks?
With ordinary mesh lined trunks, most men do not, and some do to avoid the netting. With compression lined trunks like Tucann you do not need to: the liner is a soft stretch short that does what underwear would do, without the wet fabric bunching.
Why do swim trunks have netting?
Mesh netting is a cheap liner. It gives light support, stops the shell fabric clinging when wet and dries fast. Its downside is abrasion: it is the cause of swim trunk rash and chafing, it traps sand and it wears through.
What is a compression liner in swim trunks?
A sewn in inner short made of smooth four way stretch swim fabric instead of mesh. It supports and holds everything in place like compression shorts, and because it is smooth it does not chafe.
